Unbeknownst to me, my picture was taken while I was working and has been shown on a cable television program that has run multiple times in the last 7 months. I contacted the channel and asked how they acquired the picture and was quickly referred to someone in their legal department. As I suspected, the picture was purchased from an image site, but the channel's legal rep said that they did not have the company's name readily available and that they would get back to me. However, after 3 months, I have yet to hear from anyone.
The photo is a close up from about 20 feet away, and actually places me at an event that I did not attend/work. In addition, it reflects negatively on my public service job.
Did the photographer need my authorization to sell the picture?
Is the photo site, photographer, or cable channel responsible for paying me compensation for the use of my picture?
