Twenty years ago a writer wrote a script that was sold to a studio and made into a movie.
I am currently working on a script that takes place in the same 'universe' that the original took place.
Who do I need to contact for permission to sell this? The script writer, or the studio which made the movie?

Also, try contacting the studio that produced the movie, they should know who owns what rights to what.
