Sports DVDs
Discussion: What is the name of your state? S.C. I have a question. If I were to record say a college football game (on DVD) broadcasted on public tv and edited out the commercials, would I be infringing any copyright laws? I thought this might be a way to earn some extra money by selling to other sports fans but I wanted to make sure I didn't break any laws. I also thought it might be something I could send to our deployed military men/women for free (there's a LOT of sports fans stuck over there!). Thanks. Answer: What is the name of your state? S.C. Yes, various and multiple copyright laws. Not if you are doing this for yourself. I thought this might be a way to earn some extra money by selling to other sports fans but I wanted to make sure I didn't break any laws. Selling or even giving away these DVD's will be illegal whether or not you edit out the commercials. A thoughtful gesture, but nothing that will change the fact that what you want to do is illegal unless you obtain permission. Answer: Who would I request permission from? Answer: Who would I request permission from? THe broadcaster, the college, any and all advertisments you might shoot during the game, the venue hosting the event and that's just the start...
