Is it legal to put samples of songs on a website?

Discussion:
What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? Hawaii
I just recorded my first CD and purchased the mechanical license to sell the songs. I wanted to create a website to sell the CD - do I need a license to put 30 second samples on the site? They will not be downloadable.
Also, if I make the songs available separately and instantly downloadable, will I need a digital license in addtion to the mechanical license to download and sell them?
Thanks very much for any information!

They will not be downloadable. If you have a license to use the musical works, and you own the sound recordings (or have permission to use the sound recordings), then no.
Also, if I make the songs available separately and instantly downloadable, will I need a digital license in addtion to the mechanical license to download and sell them? With the same caveats as above, no.
Answer:
Hawaii.
Thank you for the information! Yes, I have purchased the license to sell the songs as they are classic and standards (Broadway songs) and I own the recordings (they are me singing and I produced the CD) so I assume that is what you mean when you ask if I "own" the sound recordings.
So - thank you again!
Sincerely,
