Is this book idea all mine or do I have to share?
Discussion: What is the name of your state? California I had a great idea for a book and told it to a friend. We decided to write the book together. We are no longer friends. Can I still write the book or would I have to share the profits if it does get published. Her contributions were ideas that I will not use. She did not do any work.[font=Times New Roman]undefined Answer: What is the name of your state? California I had a great idea for a book and told it to a friend. Consult an attorney re intellectual property. Answer: We didn't have a written agreement. I have a feeling that she would not sign a wavier. What if I just went with my original idea without her feedback. Does it matter that I offered her to work on it with me? Answer: We didn't have a written agreement. It doesn't really matter whose idea it was -- ideas cannot be copyrighted. But the creative aspects of an idea are what CAN be copyrighted. If you are using all of your own expressions -- and especially if you are using your own ideas -- then there shouldn't be a problem. Doesn't mean that the other party won't ever try and come out of the woodwork and make trouble, but it does mean that you should be okay from a legal standpoint. If you want to be certain, do as was suggested and talk to an attorney. Answer: Thank you for this information. I will talk to someone about the specifics. Copyright © 2006 - 2009 www.todayquiz.com
