using problems from a textbook okay?
Discussion: What is the name of your state? Texas. i have a personal website and im thinking of adding a section with my notes from class and things that i've made to help me study (they are sort of like summaries and key points summarized from lectures, books, experience doing problems, etc.) but i also want to have on the website interactive quizes that will go over the notes/key points, and also problems and their answers. the answers will be mine that i've worked out but the problems are from the textbook. so will this be ok? there is also a solutions manual for this textbook, and my answers match up with theirs a lot (since they are right ) but that won't be any problem, right? this is for university level chemistry/organic chemistry courses and its just to help whoever happens to find my website but i wanted to check first to make sure i'm not doing anything illegal. any responses would be appreciated, thanks in advance. The questions as written in the textbook are copyrighted, so you can't legally use them as written without permission. You could draft your own questions and answers based on the original questions, but if you use the original questions themselves, that would not be legal without permission. The rest of the stuff should be okay, so long as you don't quote long passages from the book verbatim -- summaries are typically okay, though. Answer: state: texas. so for example if i used the same question but different numbers that would be okay? and also if the questions/problems are copy righted then is it illegal when a teacher makes up a question that happens to also be used in the book as an example or something? thanks for your reply.
