Can an event name be copyrighted?
Discussion: I live in ohio, and we've had an international event (hardly attended by anyone except canada and the US) held annually referred to informally as "the bash" I've been informed that someone copyrighted this name, yet on the copyright website, it says names cannot be copyrighted. So my question is, if I change the event name to say "GM Tuner Bash", whereas the prior events were named initially "J-body Bash" and then later on, "GM Small Car Bash"...am I breaking an infringement laws? I can't see someone owning the title to GM and Bash together. thanks in advance! Answer: I could imagine General Motors having a problem with it... Answer: well GM has never complained before, so I'm not worried about them so much as the prior event coordinator Answer: GM Tuner Bash", whereas the prior events were named initially "J-body Bash" and then later on, "GM Small Car Bash The two names are not sufficiently similar as to create a problem for you. However, I wouldn't be so cavalier about a large company like GM not being a problem. Why use "GM" at all unless you want to trade off on the name. If the other guy got away with it he may have gotten GM's permission or was lucky. Copyright © 2006 - 2009 www.todayquiz.com
