Musical Copyright
Discussion: North Carolina I'm releasing a musical CD with mostly my original songs, but I want to use someone elses copyrighted song - "When you with upon a star" but for marketing purposes on the back cover of the CD, I'd like to use a pseudo name - "When you hiss upon a star" IS THAT LEGAL, as long as on the CD itself and in the inside jacket where I list the composer, I'll use the real name Thanks -Gary Answer: In order to cover a copyrighted song, you'll need to get a license from the Harry Fox Agency, -- licenses for covers are compulsory, which means you'll get one if you ask, but you will have to pay for it. If you want to use an already-recorded version of the song on your disk, the licensing may be much more compicated -- start with the label on which the song you want to copy appears. I'd like to use a pseudo name - "When you hiss upon a star" IS THAT LEGAL, as long as on the CD itself and in the inside jacket where I list the composer, I'll use the real name This is almost certainly okay, unless the license you obtain for the cover specifically prohibits this. Answer: That's great, thanks! -Gary Copyright © 2006 - 2009 www.todayquiz.com
