Do publishers have the responsiblity to pursue copyright infringements?

Discussion:
A discussion in a Yahoo Groups forum regarding whether publishers have the responsiblity to pursue copyright infringements in that authors of books derive royalties from them. Would like to know what remedies authors have if publishers simply choose not to enforce the copyright they have been assigned?
If there are remedies of a class action nature, I can point you to several hundred authors.

Answer:
There is no responsibility for a publisher to pursue copyright infringement. In fact, unless the author is one of a select few, they sign away copyright of the product to the publisher when the advance contract is signed.
So, based on that, the author has already sold copyright to the publisher and dervies no further benefit from it.
However, authors of the caliber of Ludlum, King and others do not sell copyright, they sell publishing rights.
So, before you get this board into that discussion, make sure you know what you've signed.
Answer:
I guess you are indicating that publishers have no duty to make sure their authors get their proper royalties?
Answer:
Guess again. And that has nothing to do with the question you asked. Don't expect me to 'divine' what you really want to ask from the words you posted here.
