Singer leaves
Discussion: What is the name of your state? New York My band has 10 songs completed with words, and 3 additional, no words written. 4 of the songs with lyrics are on a demo that has been copyrighted. It looks like my singer might leave (he wrote all of the lyrics). What happens to his rights to the songs if 1. We get a new singer, and write all new lyrics 2. We get a new singer, but use the same lyrics What rights does the singer have to the name of the band? For example, if we make it big, can he come back in 10 years and try and get a piece of anything that has our name on it? What is the best way to handle this situation? We have no income, and can't afford to pay a lawyer to draft documents. Thanks. Answer: "We get a new singer, and write all new lyrics" *** Possible lawsuit "We get a new singer, but use the same lyrics" *** Possible lawsuit. "What rights does the singer have to the name of the band? For example, if we make it big, can he come back in 10 years and try and get a piece of anything that has our name on it?" *** That would depend largely on the specifics of any agreement (written or verbal)..... and his/your ability to prove them. "What is the best way to handle this situation? We have no income, and can't afford to pay a lawyer to draft documents." *** Obviously the best way would be to draw up a written agreement between him and the rest of the 'former' band. Absent that, document the hell out of what/why/how/when it happened. Answer: Good advice. Music to my ears. Answer: Just wait, this band will soon be singing a new tune Answer: Ot they will be the band on the run. Copyright © 2006 - 2009 www.todayquiz.com
