Registering Multiple Names At The Same Time
Discussion: What is the name of your state? California I have a question. The name of my company is Masstickets, and the name of my website is www.masstickets.com. When registering it with the trademark office can I register it as "MASSTICKETS WWW.MASSTICKETS.COM", or do I have to register twice "MASSTICKETS" and "WWW.MASSTICKETS.COM" ??? (Registering twice would me costing me twice as much) I did a search on the USPTO Trademark website and noticed that some people had bundled their business and website names together. Thanks in advance for the help. Answer: "When registering it with the trademark office can I register it as "MASSTICKETS ", or do I have to register twice "MASSTICKETS" and "WWW.MASSTICKETS.COM"" It depends on what kind of protection you want. If you are primarily interested in protecting MASSTICKETS, then you only need to file once. If you hold a trademark to MASSTICKETS, then in principle you could keep anyone from obtaining a domain name including MASSTICKETS. However, if you have some particular interest in obtaiing MASSTICKETS.COM as well, then you would have to file seperately. According to the USPTO, "Only one mark is permissible per application, although a mark may consist of several elements that are joined to form a composite whole (e.g., words plus a design). " Unless I am mistaken, MASSTICKETS is a seperate mark from MASSTICKETS.COM. However, like I noted above, if you are able to obtain a mark for MASSTICKETS, you could keep anyone else from registering MASSTICKETS.COM. However, if you want to register both marks, you would need to file for both seperately. Copyright © 2006 - 2009 www.todayquiz.com
