Question about Copyright on popular phase....

Discussion:
What is the name of your state?
Washington State
My brothers in the t-shirt design and custom cup / mug design. He sows (with a machine) and bakes slogans (like screen printing) and phases on t-shirts and mugs for a living. He'd like to make a few t-shirts and mugs with the phase "got beer?", "got meat?", "got motorcycle?", etc. This is much like the well know trademark "got milk?" but has nothing to do with milk. We just wanted to make sure it was perfectly legal to make your own custom "got beer?" t-shirts and mugs before going about doing it. We've seen hundreds of this t-shirt and mugs online and locally with these same phases we just want to make sure FOR SURE we will not be stepping on anyone's feet. Some advise regarding this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank-you for your time.
Sincerely,
Dave

**A: what does he sows?
Answer:
wild oats, of course. LOL
Answer:
Sorry I meant "sew". He sews the "got beer?" lettering in a t-shirt with a special machine. Can anyone help or answer my questions?
Thank-you for your time!
Sincerely,
Dave

I wouldn't be so worried about a copyright as I would about a trademark. You can check to see if "got milk" or other phrases have been trademarked, then talk with a local attorney experienced in trademarks to see if he or she thinks that you specific slogans will be infringing on anyone's registered trademarks.
Answer:
Got Oats?
