In Illinois, if a band (signed on a record label) performs live in the US, and you record it, and publish it on the web, is that illegal? Wouldn't it be the same for taking a picture of a band that is playing live, and putting a copyright for your name? Thanks

Then you would not only be violating the artist's rights to control reproduction, performance and distribution, you would also be violating the artist's rights to control digital transmission of the work under 17 USC 106(6) -- gotta love the DMCA.
