Stealing my information
Discussion: What is the name of your state? Answer: Caifornia Answer: I'm an ethics expert...wrote a major book on the subject last year, etc. I've been interviewed over 500 times in the last ten months and all the journalists who interviewed me quoted and referenced my information and mentioned my name, name of book or the name of my consulting company. Last week I was interviewed by a journalist from Yahoo. It was an interview that lasted over an hour. I answered all his questions, gave me him perspective. The article appeared today on Yahoo and he took ALL MY INFORMATION and never referenced my name, book or company. He just STOLE all my information and used it as his own for his article. Isn't that plagerism? Can he do that???? Please, help me. I've very upset. Answer: Well shoot, that wasn't very ethical of him... Answer: Gee. Sorry you think it's so trivial. I thought this was a country of laws that protect peoples property. Hmm...wonder how I thought that? Answer: And why haven't you made a formal complaint to Yahoo? Answer: Originally posted by Pfaffing85690 And why haven't you made a formal complaint to Yahoo? Thanks Pfaffing! Answer: Yes. Good idea. I will write to Yahoo. I've never sued anyone in my life, but I'm so frapped over this I would consider it. Does this issue have any legal merit? Or, would I be considered trivial as one of 'advice givers' eluded it in his/her response. Answer: Not really. You will demand attribution for the quotes and yahoo will comply. Case Closed. Answer: Does this issue have any legal merit? Or, would I be considered trivial as one of 'advice givers' eluded it in his/her response. That all depends on the exact content of the article and your discussion with this writer, neither of which we are privy to. There may have been many other people this writer talked to as research for his article. These people may have said the same things you said. That being the case, he may not have stolen anything from you at all... You'd need to see council to determine if you have legal standing, there are just too many variables for us to tell you one way or the other. Answer: Thank you for your wise council. Sigh. I'll send a letter to Senior editors at Yahoo, get it off my chest and get on with my day. I'm just mad, disappointed and feel sort of violated. Oh well. Thanks again.
