Ok aol and the use of the word aim in a buddy icon site.
Discussion: I am located in Virginia. I am going to be starting a buddy icon site soon and have registered the name its going to be a one stop shop for stuff for aol instant messenger from buddy icons, away messages, profiles, expressions, and more. Now just recently I've discovered a couple articles about and how aol took them to court cause it had aim in the domain name. Also I believe that they have gone after other sites like but I'm not sure of the outcome. I wanted to know if they have a legal rigth to take the domain away from me or should I change the domain to something "buddyicons"? I worked at the uspto for a month or two over the summer so I saw sorta how they did things but would they let me copyright the logo I have designed at and the domain name? Answer: Change the name because you will lose not only any case they care to make against you, but a lot of money in the process. No forseeable c&d letters or copyright infringements? Answer: Originally posted by edkhosting figured as much, i registered is this one ok? No forseeable c&d letters or copyright infringements? From AOL on the name? Probably not, but you'd need to pay some to do a trademark search for you to be 100% sure. Besides, AOL isn't the only company to worry about (just if use AIM in your name...) Copyright © 2006 - 2009 www.todayquiz.com
