Copyright question rearding music events!
Discussion: What is the name of your state? I'm from the uk. But if anyone can answer from their state that would give me something to work with.Thank you I've been running a company(partnership)in promoting concerts for music and I've been forced to break the company up and leave but we have a lucrative event that we did. It's well known that it was myself who has actually organised these events so i now want to start up a new company and continue organising these shows the same way they've been done before using the same contacts/people etc. The trouble is my ex-partner says by copyright law that I cannot use the same name of the event ( or similar in anyway ie spelling) as he has made the company a limited company(Even though It was a partnership, and he plans to do nothing with it) and he has copyrighted the EVENT name as an 'EVENT' licensed only to this new limited company and says i cannot use it or he will take me to court. Is he allowed to do this? It was half my company and I came up with the event name in the first place. Can I still use the EVENT name or do i have to change it. i was going to change it if I was forced to to by changing the spelling if i had too but I know he will simply add that as an event to his new company as well. It was my event. i organised everything for it, can he take it from me like this? Can you PLEASE help. Thank you. Answer: We are going to have to invoke the 30 lashes with a wet noodle to you. Item #2 above applies in your case. With all the question we have been getting from the mother land lately, it appears a UK version of the Freeadvice forums would do very well. Answer: I understand this and I apologise it's just I'm desparate for some advice and was hoping you may be able to help. Answer: You need to talk with a lawyer (or solicitor, I guess) who knows something about UK corporations law. Corporations law changes from state to state in the U.S., so anything we might know is going to be useless to you. Copyright law as well is different from country to country -- even though there are some international agreements (Berne convention, etc.) the actual implementation and enforcement of copyright regulations are very individualized to each country. Go see a UK lawyer! Answer: Jeez, Talk about getting blood from as stone. thanks anyway i guess. Copyright © 2006 - 2009 www.todayquiz.com
