How do I buy the book rights to a deceased author's autobiography?

Find out who owns the copyright and negotiate with them. You can search the copyright office's webpage to see if they have a registered copyright and who was the last owner, or you can start with the publisher -- but you'll have to find the current copyright owner in order to purchase or license the rights.
