Original art in photograph-follow-up question

Discussion:
What is the name of your state? IL
I wrote a few days ago questioning the use of a piece of copyrighted art in my photograph. I printed this photograph in card form and gave them away to friends and family as Christmas presents. The response from 'Divgradcurl' stated that I infringed on this artist's copyright.
I am now concerned it would be construed as an obvious infringement on the artist's copyright, should they ever come across any of these cards. So, I'm retrieving what cards I can, but may not get them all.
What penalties could be held against me, should they take this error as an actual infringement and sue me?
Thanks to 'Divgradcurl' for the first response, and if a follow-up is available, I would appreciate it.
Thanks.

What penalties could be held against me, should they take this error as an actual infringement and sue me? You can find the penalties in 17 U.S.C. 500 et seq.
Realistically, the chances of getting sued are slim -- you are doing the right thing by seeking permission to use your photos of the artwork. It's pretty unlikely anything further will happen -- if it does, let us know and we can point you in the right direction. Until, and if, something happens, don't worry about it -- there's nothing you can do to change anything more than you are doing anyway, so why sweat it?

Thank you for your assistance, 'divgradcurl'.
