I maintain a blog in which I gather news on a particular subject. I am confident that my usage of text is fair and legal. I reprint a few sentences as a quote - just enough so the reader can see what the story is about - and link to the original story. Sometimes I add commentary, sometimes not.
In searching for information on blogging etiquette, I've seen that several sites say it's okay to include the photo that goes with the story. Okay, so it's good blog etiquette. But is it legal?

In searching for information on blogging etiquette, I've seen that several sites say it's okay to include the photo that goes with the story. Okay, so it's good blog etiquette. But is it legal? If the use of the photograph is a "fair use," then yes, it is legal.
Of course, determining what uses are "fair" and what aren't is the tricky part -- maybe you can find a way to get permission to use the news reports and pictures, so that you wouldn't have to worry about whether a particular use was a "fair use" or not...
