Video of Work Made
Discussion: What is the name of your state? New York Hi There. Here is the situation. A video was made of a musical production that I was involved with. The way I see it 2 copyrights were infringed upon (The company that gave us the materials to do the musical, and MGM Pictures as a video of the musical was already available to the public). My question is this - as a member of the production could the liscensing company of MGM hold me personally responsible if they got a copy of this video? Any help would be great. Answer: s a member of the production could the liscensing company of MGM hold me personally responsible if they got a copy of this video? What part of the production were you? If you were the director or producer, then yeah, you probably would be a target if someone decided to enforce their IP rights. If you painted sets or acted in the production, then probably not. Answer: I was the Pianist/Musical Director. Answer: Well, as a more "managerial" type, then it is more likely that you could be held liable than if you were, say, the janitor, or the aforementioned set painter. That doesn't mean you WILL be held responsible, and anyone involved could potentially be held responsible, its just that you would be more likely than some others, and less likely than the director, producer, etc. There is no cut-and-dried answer to this question. But. on the practical side, there really isn't anything you can do about it now anyway, so why worry about it until and unless the IP rights holder makes a move -- then you can figure out your options.
