Our visa expires this march. My attorney said we can apply only 90 days before the expiry date. But my friends attorney says we can apply 6 months in advance. I am confused.
Can you please tell me when i can start applying for renewal? Thanks much

---- The normal practice is to apply within a period of 4-6 months to cover up any queries, delays and other issues that are not readily known

You can file it even 1 week before your visa expires. as long as the lawyer files the extension and gets the I-797C before your visa expires, there is no problem. It normally takes 3-4 days to receive the I-797C. The extension period of your H1b starts from the date you file the extension. So if you file 6 months in advance you may lose some time on your current 3 year visa.
